HELP WITH PAST DUE BILLS

Do you have past due bills? Creditors call every month.

Start with 2-1-1: Call 2-1-1 to ask about assistance with past-due bills in your city and state. We are working with gas, electric, and water utility companies nationwide to help homeowners and renters referred to by 24 Hepline that need essential utility services to live in their homes:

  • Receive one month of free service
  • Reduce or cancel utility debt
  • Restore essential utility services
  • Deposit paid at a later day.

If your household has employment income, you may also explore online services such as Freedom Financial Network and Deferit. These companies may charge fees and interest, so review their terms carefully before enrolling.

Programs That May Offer Assistance

If you are struggling to pay overdue bills, consider contacting the following organizations and programs:

•       Energy Care

• Emergency funds

• United Way 2-1-1

• Catholic Charities

• The Salvation Army

• Modest Needs

• Local Church Charities

24 HelpLine Give Back Program

We recommend the "Give Back Program" managed by 24 HelpLine. The program can help pay past-due household expenses including utilities, rent, mortgage payments, auto loans, and medical bills—with no strings attached.

Bills may be paid in one of three ways:

• Local Business Owners pay the bill.

• 24 HelpLine pays the bill.

• A Community Leaders pay the bill.
